The Leeton side made the bold call to send the home side into bat, which was a decision that left Griffith captain Theo Valeri a bit surprised.
"I was a little bit surprised that they won the toss and put us in really because the pitch looked pretty good," he said. "I was happy that we were able to capitalise on that and put on a good total."
Ryan Greenaway and Mitch Williams-Hedges were able to put on 23 for the first wicket before Greenaway (11) was bowled by Reece Keech (2/52).
Haydn Pascoe joined Williams-Hedges at the crease and got the pair past fifty before Pascoe was caught off the bowling of Jason Burke (1/27).
It would be along time between drinks for the Leeton side as with Pascoe leaving the field Valeri came out to bat and alongside Williams-Hedges they looked to take the game away from Leeton.
Williams-Hedges (52) was able to bring up his fifty before he was caught off the bowling of Bryce Rogers (2/37) which brought to an end a partnership of 137.
Valeri kept pushing towards his milestone with Dean Bennett (10) and Angus Boulton (21) playing good supporting roles before the Griffith skipper brought up his milestone and then looked to accelerate the run-scoring.
With the score on 271, Valeri (119) was finally dismissed with Dan Hillam (1/36) claiming the wicket bringing to an end an innings which set Griffith on the path to victory. Ben Signor (7*) and Tom Greenaway (12*) saw out the remaining overs to see Griffith finish their 55 overs on 7/295.
The clouds started to roll in just as the Leeton side went out to bat with Jason Burke and Mathew Axtil trying to make the most of a tough situation.
Burke (12) was bowled by Signor (1/8) just as the thunder and rain rolled in with Axtill (2) and Dan Hillam (0*) facing only one more delivery before play was halted with Leeton on 1/19.
