After the Diggers side won the toss and elected to bat they were on the back foot early with Ben Watts (2) and Luke Peruzzi (0) falling to the bowling of Dean Wynne.
With the score on 2/12 after five overs, Diggers captain Theo Valeri and the experienced head of Trevor Richards looked to rebuild their side's innings.
The pair were able to get put on 48 runs for the third wicket before Valeri (21) was dismissed by Hanwood skipper Charlie Cunial.
Richards was able to keep the scoreboard ticking over with Matt Crack joining him out in the middle.
The pair got Diggers past the hundred mark with Richards doing the bulk of the run-scoring in a 66-run partnership before Crack (14) was caught off the bowling of Dean Catanzariti (1/27).
Tom Valeri (1) was bowled by Ben Rowston (1/54) to see Diggers sitting on 5/138 after 34 overs Richards (103) kept the scoreboard ticking over as he brought up his hundred before he was knocked over by Cunial.
Hanwood was able to take the final three wickets in quick succession with Wynne (4/44) taking the wickets of Ben Fattore (2) and Jack Favell (1) while Cunial (3/20) took final wicket of Nathan Richards to see Diggers bowled out for 173 in the last over.
The chase was always going to be difficult for the Hanwood side, but the loss of early wickets didn't help their chances.
Catanzariti (0) fell in the first over to Valeri who followed it up with the wicket of Brad Hornery (3) three overs later to see Hanwood sitting on 2/8 after five overs.
The equation didn't improve for the home side with Valeri (3/10) picking up Jarryd Day (1) while Richards (1/9) had Micheal Crosato (5) out caught behind.
The wickets continued to tumble for Hanwood with Cunial (4) run out by Ben Fattore before Ben Watts picked up the wickets of Jordan Whitworth (0) and Gulfam Ahmed (0).
Hanwood was able to find some resistance in their lower order with Josh Carn (8), Jamie Whitworth (14) and Wynne (10*) able to get some runs on the board.
It made little difference to the result with Hanwood bowled out just after drinks for 61 with Crack (1/1) and Watts (3/25) taking the final two wickets.
The win sees Diggers remain level on points with Coro as they battle for top positions and the two sides will meet next weekend to see who takes top spot.
Hanwood has the bye before taking on Exies Eagles in two weeks.
