Mr Chughra has lived in the city since 2011, working in information technology and wants to give a voice to the city's younger and multicultural residents.

He ran for council in 2016 but fell short of being elected, and since then has contributed to several community committees for Meals on Wheels, citizenship, tourism and festivals and gardens.

He's a member of the Gurdwara Singh temple's management committee.

"I want to work with the community, my focus is helping people," Mr Chugha said.

"We need to bring economic development to town so we can retain our younger residents in town."

As well as economic development, he wants to see more options for university education in the city and ensure the services provided by council are "up to scratch".

He said when young people left to pursue studies in other cities, they weren't likely to always return to Griffith.

"We need to work on attracting and keeping skilled people working in Griffith and surrounding areas," he said.

Mr Chugha also wants to ensure there is transparency and trust in the decisions that council makes. He said that meant listening to all members of the community.

"I want to pay back the community." Mr Chugha said.

"I'm settled in Griffith with my wife and three children, my future is here."
