Dale McCleary drove to the south coast with a truck full of food, water, and supplies for the Rural Fire Service volunteers and he returned home with a warm glow in his heart.
"The people of Griffith are amazing, I can't say it enough," Mr McCleary said.
"Every time something like this happens, the community always come together and do amazing things."
Mr McCleary put the call out for donations and was inundated with pallets of water, boxes of food, and assorted medical supplies from people, families, and businesses around town.
He bundled the supplies in a truck and made the 10-hour journey through roads choked with smoke and past towns ravaged by drought.
It was a tough drive, made all the more tougher by the fact that certain roads kept being blocked off as conditions wavered.
When he finally arrived on the south coast he saw emergency accommodation centres overflowing with people and emergency services stretched to their utmost limit.
"Things are bad out there; the people are going to need some serious counselling," Mr McCleary said.
"They're suffering, and the government needs to do more to make sure they get the help they need."

Mr McCleary handed over the water pallets to local firefighters from Eurobodalla RFS, who will be distributing them to people who need it the most.
The firefighters were also relieved to receive supplies of eyedrops, lip balm, and panadol, which had become hard to get a hold of ever since the pharmacies closed down due to the conditions.
The trip to the south coast was Mr McCleary's seventh supply run to towns in need of help, and he's already planning his eight trip to help out other bushfire ravaged areas.
"Honestly, they deserve all the help they can get," Mr McCleary said.
