The Central Western outfit made the two-and-a-half hour journey to Griffith for their shot at the title, missing out by a narrow margin.
After losing the toss and being thrown to the crease, Young set the pace with a staggering 258.
However, Griffith rebounded strongly, showing heart and spirit to defend their title at 7/262.
"I was a bit worried when we won the toss and decided to bowl," coach Tim Rand said.
"But we ended up having to chase 258 so we used up our overs, like we spoke about in the change of innings,"
Captain Theo Valeri had an outstanding performance at Exies Oval, recording 46 runs and four wickets during the match.
"Young had a really good team last year and they've put up a good fight again this year," Valeri said.
"We know it's always going to be a good game against them, so we have to rise to that challenge."
Debutant Hayden Forner took a knock to the thumb during the second over, which affected his wicket-keeping ability.
But the 15-year-old held strong to ensure victory for his side, putting in an incredible first performance behind the stumps.
Bowlers Ben Signor and Tom Greenaway also had a significant impact, dragging the score back when things were starting to look tough for Griffith.
"They helped us out when we needed it there, they did really well," Valeri explained.
"We know how class they are, they just proved that again here today."
Griffith will now shift their focus toward defending the title against Temora, who they will play at Exies Oval on January 12.
