The city sweated through 28 days of over 40 degree heat in 2019, the most amount of days in a calendar year since records began in 1970.
The previous record was in 2009, which saw 24 days of that year break the 40 degree mark.
Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said the city saw a record number of hot days which lead to the year being one of the hottest on record.
"It was hot and it didn't rain was the short of it," Ms Westcott said.
"December 2019 was particularly hot... we got back-to-back records broken."
Two of the hottest months on record hit in 2019, with January and December seeing average daily maximum temperatures of 39.1 and 34.9 degrees respectively.
January 16 saw the warmest day of 2019 with a 46.4 degree scorcher while December saw the record for the hottest day in the month broken twice in consecutive days, with December 19's 44.4 degree maximum followed up by a 45.4 degree scorcher on December 20.
The year overall was not the hottest on record however, with 2019's average maximum temperature of 25.6 degrees placing it behind 2018.
However, the first days of the new year has continued to bring the heat, with the temperature on Saturday hitting a new high on the thermometer of 47.2 degrees.
Ms Westcott said the reason for the heat was due to sustained warm northerly winds with a cool change failing to hit the city until around 7pm.

The city also saw an increase in rainfall in 2019 from the previous year, with 268.2 millimetres of rain falling across the year, an increase of 47.4mm from 2018, but the fifth-lowest year of rainfall since 2001.
April and May saw above-average rainfall for the area, while December saw just 4.4mm fall at Griffith Airport, a 86.7 per cent decrease from the historical monthly average.
Ms Westcott said Griffith sees 75 days of rainfall on average each year and while 2019 saw 78 days of rainfall, the total was below the long-term average of 395.2mm.
