MIA Rural Fire Service district officer Scott Connor is urging locals to donate money instead of goods such as clothes or toys.

"It's very difficult to get goods into these areas because a lot of roads are closed," Mr Connor said. "The best way people can help at this stage is to provide financial support."

Money can be donated through the RFS website, and proceeds will go towards food, water, and accommodation for those rendered homeless.

The RFS also has a separate fund set aside on their website for the families of the firefighters killed in action.

Those wanting to donate money in person can head to drop-off points such as Westpac, Red Cross, St Vinnies, and the Salvation Army.

Griffith Salvation Army major Lyn Cathcart said the money would go a long way to help families who have been left with nothing.

"We want to help people get their lives back together," Major Cathcart said.

Those wanting to donate physical items can drop them off at shops such as the Griffith Central IGA.

Residents who know a firefighter can offer encouragement and moral support as they head out to fight fires in other parts of the state.

Mr Connor said RFS brigades have been leaving Griffith on an almost daily basis to serve in some of the worst-hit areas in the state.

"We're blessed we can send our volunteers who are more than happy to go and help their comrades in other parts of the state," he said.
