"It's always good to come home and get some quality food again," Ammendolia laughed.
The 20-year-old central attacking midfielder was drafted to UH after an impressive run of form at Hills Sports High School.
After moving abroad, her impressive streak continued on the international stage, being named among the Division One 'Team of the Season' alongside two of her teammates.
"I'm definitely very proud of myself considering the preparation I had," she explained.
"It was a bit daunting going in as a freshman, but you just pay your dues and earn their respect.
"I got there, I worked hard and I was surprised about the awards I got and how well I fitted into the team."
The number 34 recorded one goal and four assists during the course of her inaugural season, landing herself a spot among the esteemed top 100 'Freshmen of the Year.'
Her ability to dictate play and thread vital passes helped her side into their first Big West Conference final in history.
They were narrowly defeated by the University of Fullerton, however, Ammendolia remains thankful for the experience.
"I slotted right into the team, so I definitely can't complain," she said.
"I didn't even have a pre-season and I was out a year before going there."
Throughout the year, Eliza played twice every week, flying to the United States for away matches on a regular basis.
The kinesiology student intends to maintain that routine for the remaining three years of her degree, as UH remains more than happy to accommodate the forward.
"I definitely don't like defending, so being an attacker is great," she explained.
"I score goals and set up goals, what more could you want?"
