Working with disadvantaged young adults I recently was told by an 18-year-old how she hated Christmas as a child.
The hope Santa would bring her gifts, to find nothing destroyed her.
Always wondering what she did so wrong to be on the naughty list each and every year.
Only to realise years later that the drug and drinking problem of her father was why she was left without.
At this time of year, it is important to give and support charity.
We support charity not to help those who inflict harm on their families, its to help those impacted by no fault of their own.

GRANT FUNDS GET PUT TO GOOD USE
In 2018 the Griffith Senior Citizen's Inc were successful in gaining a $2500 Griffith City Council community grant to replace some of the older chairs in the centre.
The council grant did not provide sufficient funds to replace all the chairs so we also applied to Clubs NSW for additional funds.
The Griffith Leagues Club had chairs surplus to their needs so instead of providing funding the club donated 91 romance chairs to the Senior Citizen's Centre.
Having $2500 yet to spend the U3A user group asked if we could purchase chairs with arms for some of their members.
At the same time as U3A made their request the Griffith City Library had chairs with arms surplus to their needs.
We now have 28 chairs with arms and still had $2500 to spend.
Griffith City Council permitted us to use the grant funds for other purposes. Funds were used to:
- Purchase new tips for the legs of all the donated chairs.
- Upgrade a speaker's lecture such that it now has wheels and brakes.
- Steam clean the carpet.
- Purchase a chair carrier.
- Replace five heavy weight tables with light weight tables.
Thanks to Griffith City Council, Griffith Leagues Club and Griffith City Library the Senior Citizens Centre is equipped for a further 15 -20 years before new purchases will be required.

SECESSION FROM NSW IS BEST WAY FORWARD
NSW is devastating the the irrigation, forestry and other primary industries that are the basis of the prosperity of the people in the Riverina.
We cannot overcome the domination of Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong in NSW.
The Riverina needs to be formed into a state separate from NSW.
Only then can we manage water, timber, agriculture and other primary industries in the most beneficial way.
The sooner the Riverina State is formed, the better off we will all be.
