Beau Green, 23, came before Magistrate Joy Boulos on Wednesday where his legal representative Conor Cregan argued against jail time.
The owners of the house were notified of an intruder with a smart CCTV alert in July, where they saw two people in the house.
The duo had forced open a window, cut a power cord sticking out from the power box, and broken off a door handle.
The house was empty when police arrived, and they proceeded to forensically examine the property. Officers arrested Green at his home in Griffith the next day.
During an interview Green said he had lost his glasses in the grass running from the police. He also laughed about cutting the power cord, saying it was "lucky" he wasn't electrocuted.
Mr Cregan submitted the offence was not as serious as it could have been, with the house in question being unoccupied at the time, with nothing of value stolen.
"Another person got in first and he was a follower, making him a lesser offender," Mr Cregan stated.
But Magistrate Boulos rejected this, saying she had "never heard of such a submission."
"It was a joint enterprise," she stated. "What about the damage done?"
Mr Cregan told the court Green suffered from a number of subjective circumstances, relating to the health of a family member, and said he had consequently suffered drug and alcohol issues with problems controlling impulsivity and anger.

Ms Bolous decided against jail time "for a number of reasons", including the minimal damage with no items of value taken, and his plea of guilty at the first opportunity.
The sentencing evaluation of Green "painted a positive picture" outlining his remorse and understanding of the consequences, she said, reading aloud his written statement: "it was a scum thing to do."
He was convicted of the aggravated break and enter in company, receiving a two-year supervised community corrections order.
