Dreads were crowned the Senior Spring competition A grade premiers after taking out the grand final against the Kings of Probation 62-48. Playing the whole game with only five players, the side set out from the onset to take it to their opponents mainly due to the play of Isaac Testoni.
Isaac hit a game-high of 32 points as he controlled the momentum of the game for the Dreads outfit. Along with Ty Fletcher, both players found their range and hit crucial shots at times to help maintain the points break. Michael Sibraa used his experience to keep the Dreads side on track and alongside Chris Hart managed to control their defensive end.
Wayne Salvestro hit 21 points for the Kings of probation side to keep the team within 10 points, with Arch Cullen finding his range in the third quarter the game started to change momentum. Going man to man seemed to unsettle the Dreads, but it was Isaac who again swung the game back to the Dreads favour and ran out victors at the final hooter in what was one of the best games played at the stadium this season. Isaac Testoni was rewarded for his game by receiving the MVP for the game.
The A women's game likewise lived up to expectations with only 5 points separating the sides with only 3 minutes left on the regular clock time with the game seeming to be going into extra time. Jess Hill and Harley Graham had solid games for the Pastro's side finding the basket several times and pulling down crucial rebounds to help their team to a 45-43 win.
Both sides traded baskets with minutes ticking away. Several players went to the line with an opportunity to win the games for their sides, but it was the Pastros who held on to win and be crowned the champions for the Spring competition.
Alice Macrae and Jordan Pastro had a great games for the 18 girls hitting a number of layups around the bucket to keep their side within touch of the lead. Jenna Richards was reading the rebounds and pulled down hit back and was finding her range but the game slipped away with too many missed free shots letting the game slip away. Jess Hill was awarded the MVP for the game after the Pastros took out the final 45-43.
In what was the most entertaining game of the day the B men's final was taken out by the Savages after a jump ball call was called with 10 seconds left in the game with the score in favour of the Savages 50-47.
The game was again another game looking to go into extra period as both sides could not convert attack into points. A couple of rushed three-pointers by the Kingsman saw MVP for the game David "Scotty Pippen" Bogatini get out on the break and hit the two shots that gave the Savages the B Men's trophy for 2019.
Fusi Fidow helped his side with the victory with Beau Kelly and George Fidow standouts for the Kingsmen.
The Pro team in the B women's final had a great 4th quarter to steal the win against the Sweet plumm side. Brooke Kirby (MVP) top-scored led her side along with Arabella Bardney. Sweet plumm looked to have the game sewn up but unfortunately fell agonisingly 3 points short at the final siren. Ellie Poli and Josie Brady played strong games for their side.
In the C men's final, the Mookie eyes side took out the final against the Ringerz 40-25. Micheal and Wayne Charles started to control the game and support from Nathaniel Little.
Ringerz had too many missing due to schoolies, but it was a great effort by the rest of the boys who never gave up. Ben woods and Rav "D Train" Singh ran the courts well. Nathaniel Little was rewarded for his efforts with the MVP for the C men's final.
