The home team won the toss and elected to bat and looked destined to put on a big total with Kye O'Neil (64), Dean Harris (18) and Mitchell Johnson (14) helping their side reach 2/100 after 20 overs.

The bowling of Connor Bock (2/2), who bowled nine overs with seven of the being maidens, Mitchell Williams-Hedges (1/12) and Jack Hutchinson (1/23) help to restrict Lakes to 6/185 after their 45 overs as Greg McFadgen (21*) and Colin Fisher (17) scoring the runs for Lakes.

Griffith captain Theo Valeri praised the work of the young bowlers.

"The start they got off to and the way we were able to reel it back in was pleasing," he said.

"I think they were 2/100 at drinks and we knew we had to bowl really well, and we did and were able to keep the to 85 in the last 20.

"Those two boys (Connor and Jack) bowled well, and during those middle overs they were able to bring it back for us."

In reply, Williams-Hedges (21) and Will Kennedy (10) laid the foundation with a 29-run opening partnership before the pair fell within 10 runs of each other to have Griffith sitting on 2/40 after 12 overs.

This brought the captain and his deputy, Haydn Pascoe, and the pair went out there with a simple plan.

"We knew that if we got set runs would come and lucky enough it did," he said.

"It was quite a quick outfield, and the pitch did a bit early, but once we got through the new ball, it was alright."

The pair were able to put on 102 for the third wicket and get their side well on track for success and while Pascoe was able to bring up fifty, Theo Valeri (47) fell three runs short of fifty while Tom Valeri (4) followed him back five runs later with Harris taking both wickets (2/28).

Despite the two quick wickets, Griffith needed 39 runs off the remaining 17 overs, so time was on their side

It only took the visitors another five overs to chase down the remaining runs with Pascoe (68*) and Ryan Greenaway (19) able to put on a quick forty run partnership to see their side take the six-wicket win.

Griffith will now prepare for a Hedditch Cup clash with Leeton before taking on West Wyalong in their first defence of the Creet Cup.
