With this statement in mind, Griffith will be one of the many city's across the world taking part in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence .
Running from November 25 through December 10 annually, this year continues on the back of an unprecedented global outcry.
During the course of the campaign, The Area News will be working with Griffith's Linking Communities Network Ltd to highlight the different forms of violence, what to look out for and where to get help.
Deputy CEO of Linking Communities Network Kirrilly Salvestro says breaking the silence is the first step to transforming the culture of gender-based violence.
"If we can all change the conversation, we can change the culture that allows family violence and violence against women to happen in the first place," Ms Salvestro said.
"When early behaviours become normalised, family violence and violence against women can rapidly escalate and lead to a higher propensity of violence, so it is important for all of community to recognise the signs and speak out against the behaviours that lead to violence against women".
Violence against women is an epidemic in Australia. Already this year we have had 63 women killed, most by family members.

"Many people are not aware of the extent of violence and only see physical violence as an unacceptable form of violence against women," Ms Salvestro said.
"The issue is much bigger than that though, violence takes on many forms and is just as damaging as a punch or a kick.
"One in three women and girls experience violence in their lifetime. It happens in every country and every society. It happens at home, in schools, on the streets, at work and on the internet."
Millions have rallied behind the hashtag #MeToo and other campaigns, exposing the sheer magnitude of sexual harassment and other forms of violence that women everywhere suffer, every day.
