The leak was found quickly with works being carried out in front of the school buildings at around 1.15pm on Tuesday, with Griffith Fire and Rescue Station 311 responding immediately.
Fire and Rescue detected the leak and too precautions to prevent a fire, and evacuated the 150 children out of the buildings.
Our staff and students should be commended on being calm, and we've had drills before so we knew exactly what to do.
- Lesley Harpur
The gas company shut down the line at 2pm, and the school was given the all clear.
Principal Lesley Harpur said all the practice drills carried out proved fruitful, with both staff and students moving to the external evacuation point calmly.
"The response of the local fire brigade was very quick, and the gas company also responded very quickly," she explained.
"We were back in school within an hour and a half."
She said you never hope you will need to evacuate a school in an emergency when practicing drills, but it was good to know everyone listened and paid attention.
