The decision was made at a committee meeting in September and was moved by Councillor Eddy Mardon and committee member Denny Fachin.

The minutes were adopted at Tuesday's council meeting, where Councillor Mike Neville criticised Mr Pierotti's absenteeism.

He suggested council write to the chamber to ask for someone else who "actually actively promotes and support the business community of Griffith", instead of Mr Pierotti.

"It's not good enough to put your hand up and then not turn up to meetings," Cr Neville said.

Cr Neville has long been at loggerheads with Mr Pierotti, who was one of Cr Neville's most vocal critics back when he served as mayor.

Cr Mardon rejected Cr Neville's amended motion, saying he had already had other people in mind to replace Mr Pierotti.

"The people who are on standby and who are nominated now, I wouldn't like them to miss the opportunity to be part of it," Cr Mardon said.

Mr Pierotti said he'd be challenging the committee's decision, saying he'd always followed the proper protocols and sent in a formal apology every time he was absent.

"I do not believe that council can remove someone from the committee who has made an apology without valid cause or consultation," Mr Pierotti said.

"Being an extremely busy business person we were never consulted with the dates, and many of these dates clashed with my business and overseas travel."

He hit back at the "abusive and disrespectful" comments made by Cr Neville during the meeting, as well as remarks made by mayor and committee chairman John Dal Broi.

"John Dal Broi's comments ... are inappropriate and typical of the bullying behaviour by this man, who needs to review his position."

"To be talking about Griffith's largest business association in such a negative and derogatory way is completely out of line."

He went on to criticise Griffith City Council as a whole, saying they were "bullies" who were out of touch with the business community.

"It is clear that this council refuses to accept any scrutiny and will personally attack anyone who attempts to call for transparency," Mr Pierotti said.

"I'm yet to hear from anyone who supports the behaviour of this organisation in recent times."

This is the most recent incident in the longstanding feud between business chamber executives and certain councillors.
