You can visit drop-in information sessions at Griffin Plaza from 11am-2pm on October 23, outside the newsagency in Yenda from 9-11am on October 24, and Griffith City Library from October 18-25. Along with breast cancer awareness, October is also the month for Mental Health Awareness, a priority for the Griffith LHAC. Data shows that 1 in 5 Australians are affected by mental illness, yet many don't seek help because of stigma.
One important way each of us can support someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts is by signing up for QPR training - Question, Persuade, Refer. The free online training takes 60 minutes to complete and provides knowledge and skills to identify warning signs someone may be suicidal. It also provides confidence to know how to connect people with suicidal thoughts to professional care.
