Pulling up next to an unmarked police car at around 3.10am Saturday morning at a service station on Banna Avenue, officers spotted him and questioned him about an unrelated matter.
When he produced his Victorian learner's permit, police gave him a breath test which returned a reading of 0.255.
Officers noted there was still quite a few pedestrians around the area at the time, due to the Griffith Spring Fest sculptures.
As a result, he was charged with driving unaccompanied, driving an unregistered vehicle, as well as high range drink-driving.

An attempted break and enter was reported on Monday morning, detailing locks had been tampered with and damaged over the weekend, but not enough to get in.
However a fence had also been found cut, and items were reported stolen.
Someone had also tried to jimmy open a window on one of the building, however it doesn't appear they were successful in getting in or stealing anything.
