Deputy Premier John Barilaro was in attendance to open the new addition to the library, which was funded through a grant of $150,000 from the state government.
Mr Barilaro said libraries are a place for people to come together and the new room will allow for a wider range of people to use the facilities.
"Public libraries are no longer just a haven for book lovers," Mr Barilaro said.
"This new space will allow Griffith City Library to offer greater novel, language and story related experiences, such as coding workshops to introduce little ones to programming and sensory-friendly movie sessions for locals living with autism.
"Reading, language and storytelling are essential to developing imagination and vocabulary... and now more Griffith locals with varied abilities can participate in the joy of learning."
The 'theatrette' will be able to seat 40 people and includes an in-house projector and screen as well as an audio hearing loop and kitchenette.

Griffith mayor John Dal Broi said the new experiences which can be provided by the library as a result of the room will "delight and inspire families for many generations to come".
"This library is the focal point of our community, as far as the use of it is concerned," Councillor Dal Broi said.
"It's always been a library that has been at the forefront [and] setting trends.
"This redesign of the library function space will enable us to keep pace with growing community demand for a variety of more diverse and interesting services."
The new room saw a soft opening during the library's open day on October 12, with the room designed by local architect Steven Murray.
