You may not know your dipstick from your differential, or your cylinder head from your CV joint, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't learn some motor vehicle basics that could help you out in the long run.
Women & Wheels is a workshop hosted by Owen Toyota that is aimed at providing a simplified explanation of how a vehicle operates, as well as its major components.
There are also all-important car maintenance and safety tips that will be presented in a fun, friendly and judgement-free environment.
And don't let the name fool you, this workshop is not just limited to women; men are also welcome.
Owen Toyota hosted Women & Wheels for the first time last year and got a phenomenal response. The event was booked out and raised funds for the McGrath Foundation.
Dealership owners Mark and Dean Owen said proceeds from the evening and all raffle ticket sales will again go to the McGrath Foundation to help fund breast care nurses.
"We've jumped on board with Pink-Up Griffith again this year and encourage others to pink-up their business in support too," Dean said.
Mark said the business had played an active role in the community for 45 years.
"Supporting the community is important to us because we are so grateful for the level of support the community has shown our dealership over the years," he said.
"We also encourage our employees to get involved in our sponsored events, which not only improves community engagement, but fosters a happier workplace."
Some of the things participants will learn in this "crash course":
- Under the hood explanation - Internal "organs" explained, along with tips on jump starting a vehicle
- How to change a tyre and check tyre pressures - Tips and tricks for when the unfortunate happens
- A hoisted look under a vehicle - Understanding a vehicle's servicing requirements and what work is done at service time.
- General car maintenance and vehicle safety systems explained - So you can take your next journey with confidence.
The evening will feature nibbles and drinks courtesy of Eleni's Kuzina and Calabria Wines, and there will also be a raffle with great prizes.
Cost to attend the evening on Tuesday, October 22 is $10 plus a booking fee.
"We encourage everyone who needs a refresh on car 'know-how' basics to join us," Dean said.
