Fire and Rescue station managers from the Region West area - which includes the Riverina, Orana and Broken Hill regions - came together in Griffith for two days of training on Friday and Saturday, learning about some of the latest technologies available to Fire and Rescue stations as well as updates to legislation and service procedures.

Acting Inspector of the Riverina Matt Hunter said the conference is a great opportunity to ensure firefighters across the region have a consistent base of knowledge to draw from.

"Everyone's singing off the same song-sheet," acting Inspector Hunter said.

"It's an effective way of getting everyone together so everyone gets the same message about whats happening and how things are occurring in the area and the organisation in general."

New systems and technology were the key items on the menu for Friday's training, with Fire and Rescue members learning about how drones can assist with incidents, new methods of safe rescue for larger animals such as horses and cattle and more information regarding the service's rehabilitation vehicles, which provide firefighters with supplies and materials to ensure they avoid fatigue during longer operations.

Acting Inspector Hunter said the conference aims to help station managers further consider the risks and services available to them when undertaking operations in the future.

"It gives all our station management an idea of what's available and what's available to them," he said.

"We're sort of educating our station management on safe ways to do it, what we need to be aware of, what we need to have on scene, what the risk your units coming in need to prepare for and potentially what can and can't happen and the risks associated with that sort of rescue."
