It was a tightly contested opening half with the best chance of the opening 25 minutes falling to Kobe Ellis who's shot from long range almost caught the Rangers keeper off his line.
The Hanwood side had the better of the second half, but the Rangers keeper was able to keep his side in it with a number of diving saves keeping the scores level heading into the final five minutes.
Just as the game looked destined to head into golden goal, Hanwood was able to make the breakthrough.
Jacob Serafin, who had been at the centre of a number of great chances in the second half, was able to get his head on the end of a corner and directed the ball in at the near post with just a minute left.
The under 12s side will now take on Dee Why from Manly-Warringah in the round of 16. The under 13s team will also be heading to Manly to take on Forest Killarney after a 3-2 win over Hurstville City Minotaurs.
