There were so many skillful spellers that the teachers ran out of spelling rounds and had to go into the bonus "unseen words" round in order to find a winner.
That's never happened before in teacher Lisa Malone's experience, and she's been running the spelling bees for the last nine years.
"Usually round five or six pulls us up and we get a winner by then," Mrs Malone said.

Parkview Public Student Montana Nardi seized first place after blitzing through seven rounds and into the unseen words round.
She's an avid reader who reads big, wordy books for an 8-year-old, her favourite being the Harry Potter series.
Second place went to Mia Harris from Yenda Public School, another avid reader who proved her spelling skills on the day.
