Professor Jeff Dunn visited the group ahead of a joint dinner hosted by the support group and the Rotary Club of Griffith on Tuesday evening, where Mr Dunn was the keynote speaker.
Mr Dunn informed the group of the latest advancements in prostate cancer treatment and the foundations plans for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which is in September.
He said it was important to visit Griffith to acknowledge the work the support group is doing and further develop an understanding as to how the cancer is discussed in regional areas.
"It's fantastic to have this group here in Griffith," Mr Dunn said.
"Prostate cancer is a disease with no respect for geography.
"We need to spend time understanding the issues for rural people and rural communities and what that means, which is why its terrific for me to come out here and speak to these people."

Mr Dunn recommended men over the age of 50 speak to a general practitioner about prostate cancer, while men who have a family history of the cancer talk to a doctor earlier.
He also recommended those with prostate cancer go to support groups to better deal with the disease.
"If you've got a support group, its a central place to come, share stories, learn from each other, create awareness and also make sure we've got the best possible information," Mr Dunn said.
Facilitator of the support group Barry Maples said the group aims to increase awareness of the cancer and its effect on others.
"Men don't want to know much about it," Mr Maples said.
"We don't give any medical advice but you can bounce it off guys who've experienced, what they've had, what they've done.
"It's nothing to be ashamed of."
The Griffith prostate cancer support group meets at 7pm on the third Thursday of every month at the Griffith Southside Leagues Club.
