It was the Hawks who were able to make a strong first impression with Soqoni Saurara getting over in the corner before the Roosters were their own worst enemy with Robbie Simpson sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes after repeated infringements.
The Yanco side was able to make the most of the numerical advantage as after running the ball on the final tackle Kane Hammond was able to get over the line to give the Hawks a 10-0 lead after 12 minutes.
DPC skipper Josh Veivers knows this is something that needs to be fixed if they want to progress further into finals.
"It has been a bit of a worry over the past couple of weeks," he said.
"We have started off real slow with scrappy penalties and errors, and we have let teams get that jump on us but lucky enough we fixed those issues in the next twenty of the first half."
The Roosters started to find their footing in the game after falling two tries behind with Billy Robb getting over first before Josh Veivers, and Dillion Bartter also picked up tries to see their side leading 18-10 after the opening 40 minutes.
The focus at halftime was to ensure the Hawks weren't able to have any more of an impact on the scoreboard.
"We just wanted to focus on our defence and the points came on the back of that," he said.
"We knew that if we dug in for the first 20 of that second half, we would get some joy at the end of the half."
Just after halftime, the Roosters were able to extend their lead with a second to Veivers before Luke Hogan scored his first of the day after getting on the end of a perfectly placed kick from Ryan McGoldrick.
Drew Hopwood got over the line not long after Hogan while the winger and Dillion Bartter secured doubles to see their side advancing to the preliminary final.
Veivers praised the work of his forwards.
"Once we did right the wrongs we started getting a bit of a role on," he said. " Ben Jeffery started to go well in the middle, and the forwards were just coming off the back of him."
