Lake View was the property of a German settler named Peeck. His property was situated on the eastern side of the lake.
Who is buried in the grave by the roadside to the lake?
It seems the mystery grave was to remain a mystery. Research has failed to identify the person buried there.
Construction of the Lake View Channel started in January 1921.
The first farms were gazetted for occupation in December 1921 and were mostly taken up by returned soldiers from World War I.
The channels were excavated by men using horses and the Wonkey Scoop.
Lake View had a golf course built around the lake.
In 1924, members of the club held an open day in ideal weather. The fairways were in excellent condition.
Many young people benefited by being part of the Rural Youth Club, which offered members a wide and varied range of events and social activities.
Lake Wyangan Post Office opened in December 1924 as a telephone office; a non-official post office opened in April 1925.
In December 1922, residents of Lake View petitioned the Department of Education to establish a public school.
The problem was where to locate it.
On July 17, 1923 the department acquired Mr Alcock's property and in the following month approval was given for the construction of a school building on the site.
This was completed in November 1924. The first teacher was appointed in January 1925.
School picnics, sports days and the Christmas concerts hold many memories for past students.
