The first round of the Area Builders Trophy was played at the Griffith Golf Club last Saturday, with 69 golfers braving the bleak day in a single stableford.

John Dalton leads the field on 39 points going into Saturday's second round, one ahead of Bryan Salvestro and Brian Grandi.
Dalton also won C Grade, scoring 20 points out, 19 home and carding six pars. Runner-up was Josh Smith, 37 points, with three pars, 19 points out and 18 in.
Countbacks sorted the places out in A Grade after Bryan Salvestro and Brian Grandi both carded 38 points. Salvestro took the win, scoring 20 points in to Grandi's 18. Salvestro nailed birdies on the 10th., ad 15th. Grandi carded six pars.
Countbacks also sorted B Grade; Chris Carroll and David Kidd both scoring 36 points. Kidd parred four holes, Carroll birdied the sixth but a miss on the 13th cost him the win. Steve Carruthers and Jason Magoci won the Pro Pins. Par Threes: 7th Darren Forrester, 11th Anthony Zamin, 16th Lance Perry. Vouchers to 32 points.
Another miserable day greeted 28 golfers on Sunday for a two-grade single versus par. Ryan Harrison, plus 1, won 0-18 Grade from Jason Magoci, minus 1, on a countback over Andrew Noadd, Denis Guilfoyle and Mike Gillett. Nick Viasoff, plus 1, won 19-36 Grade ahead of Ken Waide, minus 1. Mick Catanariti won the 7th pin, Andrew Noad 16th. Vouchers to minus 3.
The semi-finals of the Lowes Petroleum 4 Ball Match Play were also completed last Sunday.
G. Cox & S. Panazzolo d J. Magoci & A. Franchi 1 up, and will play M. Rummings & S. Ranney in the final after they defeated G. & N.Campbell 2/1 in the other semi.
The pro shop has a number of July specials and the board is also looking for volunteers to help out in the shop and help with maintenance. A reminder also that ladies clinics are at 4pm.on Fridays; the junior clinics are on 1pm on Sunday, followed by the 3, 6, 9 holes of golf.
Today's event is a single stroke, the second round of the Area Builders on Saturday a single stableford and a medley single stableford on Sunday.
The veterans played a single stableford last Thursday, the sixth round of the Winter Cup. Roy Calabria, 37 points, won 0-18 Grade on a countback over John Gale, 37 points. Garry Purcell, 40 points, was best in 19-27 Grade, Len Sexton (34 points) was second on a countback. Mike Hedditch, 34 points, won 28-36 Grade on a countback over Noel Foley, 34 points.
Noel Foley, 146, leads the Winter Dup from Garry Purcell 145, Len Sexton 139, Mike Hedditch 139, John Gale, Allan King, Lindsay Martyn 138. This week is a single stableford and seventh round of the Winter Cup.
Last Wednesday was a single stableford with 37 players. Garry Cox, 36 points, won A Grade on a countback over Bryan Salvestro, 36 points, countback over Sim Tuitivake. In B Grade, Alf Franchi, 36 points, won from Albert Donadel, 32 points. In C Grade, Steve Lightfoot, 38 points won from Frank Zambon, 36 points.
