The planned work includes widening of the road's shoulders, removal of trees and improvements to drainage and utilities.
"Early work is required in preparation for the future upgrade of the Yoogali intersection," Roads and Maritime Services south-west region director Lindsay Tanner said.
"There are also numerous services and utilities located at the intersection, including gas, electricity, water and telecommunications which need to be relocated outside the road corridor."
Signs advising the detours for this weekend will be in place, and the RMS advises motorists to allow five minutes extra for travel.
