History was made and glass ceilings were smashed when the Rotary Club of Griffith East welcomed their first female president.

Major Lyn Cathcart was (and still is) the only female member in the club's history, but from the moment she joined in March 2017 she found herself fitting right in with the rest of the boys.
"They're a lovely bunch of guys and I love being part of them," Major Cathcart said.
"It's smaller than other rotary clubs, but they all work together and it's just awesome being one of them."
Major Cathcart was an obvious choice for president, as someone who has developed a reputation for tirelessly serving the community.
She's the Major at Griffith's Salvation Army, but she still somehow manages to take time out of her busy schedule to help out at the club's many events.
Major Cathcart said there are three things she wants to accomplish during her time as president.

Her first priority is getting more men and women to join the club, which has a very small pool of members.
Her second priority is getting local businesses on board with corporate memberships, which will go a long way to bolster the club's coffers.
Her third priority is getting the different rotary clubs to team up and help Griffith's homeless population and tackle the current "housing crisis".
It's an ambitious list, but Major Cathcart is well-practiced in getting people to rally behind a common cause.
She says she's a shy person by nature, but that joining groups like the Salvation Army and rotary give her the confidence to get out there in the community and get things done.
The Rotary Club of Griffith East had a changeover ceremony on June 19 to welcome Major Cathcart as the new president.
She will officially become president on July 1, when she takes the reign from outgoing president Cyril Ceddia on July 1.
Mr Ceddia said he was completely confident the Rotary Club of Griffith East was safe in the hands of Major Cathcart.
"She gets involved with everything - all the barbecues, all the events we hold - she makes room for all that in her busy life," Mr Ceddia said.
"She's a committed lady and incredibly community-minded."
