Yenda Fire and Rescue NSW captain Gavin Raccanello will join Griffith FRNSW firefighters Chris Evans and Aaron Hoad as they climb 1504 steps while carrying over 20 kilograms of firefighting gear.
It's a gruelling challenge for only the fittest and most determined firies, but it will be Chris Evans' third time tackling the climb.
"This time around it'll be a personal journey," Mr Evans said.
On Tuesday a friend of Mr Evans was diagnosed with MND, a deadly disease that gradually takes away a person's ability to move, speak, and breathe.
Griffith's MND outbreak has reached national headlines, with reports showing Griffith residents are seven times more likely to have MND than the average Australian.
Mr Evans has other friends who have been struck with MND, which is why he's raising money for Macquarie University so they might one day find a cure.
He's currently planning several fundraising events and he's already started training on the stair machine to prepare his thighs for the formidable climb ahead.

This will be Gavin Raccanello's first time attempting the Sydney Tower Eye climb, and he's steeling himself for a challenge.
"We've already started training and knowing it's for such a worthy cause makes it so much easier," Mr Raccanello said.
"Every cent counts."
He will be organising several fundraising events in the coming months, with 100 per cent of the funds going towards Macquarie University's Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research.
It is the largest MND research centre in Australia, and is completely run through the support of public donations and research grants.
Mr Raccanello, Mr Evans, and Mr Hoad will get fully kitted up and begin the ascent to the top of Sydney Tower Eye on November 9.
