If the NSW government is re-elected next March they will sell off 49 per cent of the government owned electricity "poles and wires" businesses to pay for $20 billion worth of infrastructure upgrades. Murrumbidgee MP Adrian Piccoli gave the privatisation his blessing after it was agreed Essential Energy would be excluded from the sale.

HOSPITAL LOCKDOWN
Griffith Base Hospital has taken the dramatic step of opening a specialist swine flu clinic amid reports more than 10 locals have had contact with the highly contagious virus. As of midday Friday, the hospital was forced into lockdown. Only the front entrance remains open and anyone entering the building has to answer a series of questions before being allowed in.

Flashy new apartments and stylish offices are to be the new feature of Griffith's central business district. A consortium of local business people called Transitional Investments will be pouring up to $6 million into the development which will be located at the former Keith Gill Ford depot on the corner of Ulong and Yambil streets.
TEN ARRESTED IN OPERATION
Carrathool and Hay have been at the centre of a major drug and firearms raid which has netted several players. Ten men, aged between 18 and 65, were arrested during the Vikings operation last Thursday.
THREE GENERATIONS MAKE A RACQUET
At 75 years of age, Tom Condon took the court of this year's MIA Open at Griffith's Jack Shannon Memorial courts as its oldest participant. And grandson Lachlan may have celebrated a birthday yesterday, but he was still the event's youngest entrant at eight.
