It was the Mallee Men who started the game brighter with Derryn Clayton getting across the line with three minutes gone in the first half.
The Hawks were able to take the lead with nine minutes left before the break, but a late penalty goal from Braiden Jones saw the side's go in level at 6-6.
The visiting side was able to carry their momentum across into the opening five minutes of the second half with Billy Ingram crossing to restore the Hawks advantage.
The lead grew to two converted tries with Harry Daudravuni crossing with 23 minutes remaining to see the Hawks leading 18-6.
The Mallee Men had a lifeline with 10 minutes left in the game with Clayton getting across the line for his second of the game, but they weren't able to find the line again for the Hawks to take the points.
Yanco-Wamoon now moves into second only behind the first-placed Waratahs on percentage while West Wyalong falls a win off the pace with their first loss at home this season.
The Hawks will look to continue their unbeaten run when they take on rivals Leeton next weekend while West Wyalong travels to face TLU.
