Count data released by the Australian Electoral Commission revealed Ms Ley topped the polls throughout the MIA, but it wasn't quite enough to take win over voters at Griffith West.
Four Griffith booths recorded positive swings of more than 10 per cent for the Liberal Party. Prepoll voters turning out in droves prior to election day cast strongly for the incumbent, with Ms Ley seeing a massive 37.68 per cent swing with early voters at the Griffith booth.
The independent candidate Kevin Mack - who shaped up to be Ms Ley's strongest opposition, collecting 38.88 per cent of the two candidate preferred vote - outstripped Labor at more than a third of the Griffith booths.
Labor candidate Kieran Drabsch's best MIA results outside of the prepoll centres were Narrandera East with 25.63 per cent, Leeton Parkview with 24.49 per cent and Griffith West with 24.43 per cent.
However, only one of those booths recorded a swing towards the ALP.
