Denis Tinkler dismissed speculation from rival farmers that his call which appeared in newspapers was financed by political bodies.
"I absolutely deny we have received any funding from any political party and absolutely deny I have any connection to any political party," Mr Tinkler said.
"I'm not a member of the National Party or the Liberal Party. To my knowledge of those that have contributed almost all of them have no political affiliations."
Mr Tinkler's advert under the banner Irrigators 4 Farrer declares "A vote for Mack is a vote for Tony Burke and Penny Wong (of Labor)" and that "Tony Burke and his green friends intend to ramp up buy backs to take even more water from this region!".
Mr Mack disputed Mr Tinkler's view that a vote for him would see a Labor Government deliver less water for the region.
"Pausing the plan is not about affecting water trading," Mr Mack said..
"I support this proposition because it is important to have this discussion in an independent process."
Mr Tinkler, 68, has lived on the same property since the age of 13 and grew rice for 50 years before a lack of water saw him focus solely on sheep meat farming over the past three years.
Mr Tinkler declined to say how many landholders he represented, but noted "he's correct in saying it's only a small number".
However, he believes his views reflect a "very, very large minority".
"I think there is a 50-50 split at the moment between those who want to take a softly, softly approach and those who want to take a confrontational approach," Mr Tinkler said.
"To give them (Voices for Farrer) credit they have raised the profile of water and you must give them credit for that.
"But an independent candidate and a royal commission is the wrong solution."
