Two exhibitors will provide free eye scans, and blood pressure and glucose checks.
Drive Thru Pharmacy (site 70) will offer free blood glucose testing and free blood pressure testing.
Blood glucose testing, conducted via a simple pin-prick blood test, measures the amount of glucose in your blood.
Glucose is a simple sugar that provides energy for the body.
The standard blood glucose tests measure blood sugar levels at a particular time and can help people see the effects of food, exercise, medication and illness on blood glucose levels.
A blood pressure test measures the pressure in the arteries as the heart pumps.
Also known as hypertension, high blood pressure puts extra strain on the heart and arteries.
Maintaining healthy blood pressure is important because high blood pressure is also a risk factor for diseases such as heart attack, kidney failure and stroke.
Keeping a close eye on blood pressure is a good way to catch changes early and take appropriate action.
OPSM (Woodside Hall, site 22) will be offering free retinal eye scans during the field days.
The digital retinal camera used in the process will allow people to see what their eye looks like from the outside looking in.
Retinal imaging allows doctors to get a much wider digital view of the retina. While there will not be any diagnosis on site, the process will show how this technology helps with diagnosis.
May is also Macula Month, which raises awareness of all macular diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
OPSM staff will be available to discuss any issues and to book an appointment with an optometrist.
