At 10.35am on Thursday preferences were distributed and the final numbers were tallied up, leaving Helen Dalton the clear victor.
After nine counts Helen Dalton had enough to get her over the line with 20,762 votes. By the final count Austin Evans had 18,020 votes, leaving him at second place.
That means in a two-candidate preferred tally count, Helen Dalton had 53.54 per cent of the votes against Austin Evans' 46.46 per cent.

This represents a massive swing of more than 26 percentage points compared with the 2015 state election, which saw Nationals Adrian Picoli convincingly win with a comfortable 22.7 per cent margin over Mrs Dalton.
This year the tables have turned and Mrs Dalton has managed to secure a win for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers, despite Murray being a traditionally safe Nationals seat for three and a half decades.
Now that the numbers have all been tallied, all that remains is for Helen Dalton to be officially sworn in as the new Member for Murray.
