Even with his absence from the start line this week, he still holds a lead which is more than handy, it's intimidating. He has 190 points, with father Steven second on 164 - that is less a challenge, more a protection.
Next in line, Andres Alduan on 98 points has left town for a new job, Mark Andreazza is missing a few too many runs, Anthony Trefilo went back to the Short, Roy Binks crashed out on a bend - Connor is last man standing.
We do however, have a hoot of a challenge in the Short course competition, currently a three way tussle between Callum Vecchio, Georgia Bourke and Milla Vecchio. All three are capable and all three can waiver a little so it is difficult to pick the winner here. Conditions for this run were a little oppressive prior to the start and times were expected to remain in the doldrums, but it happened otherwise.
There was heaps of competition best pace in both the Short and Long despite the Long jumping from 6.2km to 10.2km. Fiona Fattore, Isabella Salmon, Christian Callinan and Anthony Trefilo all got into the list of top times of the competition for the Short, Fiona equalling Narelle Lagergren's best and Isabella just eight seconds slower.
Meanwhile Aidan Fattore, Mark Andreazza and Matt Kenny set the three best times of the competition in the Long. With Connor Bourke away, Steven was given permission to win the Long and he did that by upping his kilometre rate by seven seconds over last week.
Aidan Fattore had time enough for a snooze before his start time of 32 minutes, then threw dust on all but one runner for second and fastest. There were plenty of other good efforts including Matt Kenny at third, Michael Colaciuri with a rhg at sixth, and Mia Stockwell at 22nd and fastest.
Joseph Bellicanta took the Short with a gap of three minutes to second - we don't see him often but something is keeping him fit. The Joggers run each Saturday at 5:30pm from the water tower opposite Pioneer Park Museum, with a choice of Short or Long over the tracks and trails of Scenic Hill.
