Junior Waratahs president Rob Donavan was ecstatic that so many first graders had offered to help out the juniors at the club.

"It is good that they are able to put something back into the juniors. It is good for the club to keep it all as one family," he said.

"Luke Farmer, Malie Ngu, Kose and Tom Sellars is doing 16s, so they are all good coaches in good places. They will get development, and hopefully, it will be their career starts."

Donavan is hopeful that with the introduction of the new coaches it will help the juniors learn the new style of play.

"It takes out the old school coaches," he said

"It was all different when I was a young bloke. It is a totally different game now, so you need to more modern coach to come in teach them the modern ways.

"Get rid of the old stuff and go with the future."

For Kose Lelei it will mean he is coaching the most senior players alongside the youngest at the club as he is taking charge of the under 6s side where he will be assisted by Chris Tomi.

He sees this as a chance to give back to the club which has given him so much.

"Coaching the under 6s is something else, but it's good," he said.

"This is the club where I started, so it's good to be able to give back. It's a bonus to be able to coach my two young boys."

Donavan has been happy to see how their numbers a tracking at the moment with plenty of interest heading into the season.

"Numbers have been good and they are picking up all the time," he said.

"I think having the right coaches will help to attract more players. Kids will show up if they know they are going to learn."

It will be a year of change at the junior Group 20 level. This year's season will see the introduction of second-year age-groups for under 6s, 8s, 10s, 12s and 14s to allow participating clubs a greater opportunity to field teams across all age-groups.
