PRICES HAVE GONE UP
I've noticed some political posters nailed up around the area lately. One interesting one reads; "Cheaper power? Vote Nats".

The Nationals have been in government for eight years. Power is more expensive, not cheaper!
While I'm on the subject, South Australia has no National Party MPs and heaps of irrigation water. NSW has quite a few National Party MPs and virtually no irrigation water. Confused? So am I!

WAITING FOR MOVEMENT
In 2007, Kay Hull National committed to moving the freight centre shunting out of town. Then in 2009 when the freight train ran across the Road in Wakaden Street demolishing a home. Adrian Piccoli, when in opposition, said it was a safety issue and it had to moved out of town straight away and it would cost $10 million dollars.
Now there is another National Greg Adamson moved here recently indicating likewise. Greg Adamson also criticised Labor for the final agreement of the MBDA Act in 2012, in his letter to the editor, The Area News, March 1.
Both the Coalition and Labor signed off on it including Tony Abbott and Barnaby Joyce. All except the now stumbling leader of the Nats and Deputy PM Michael McCormack who moved the disallowance motion then which was supported by the Greens. However it was soundly defeated by about 95 votes to five ... it was only a stunt!
Also the $10 billion dollar MBDA Act plus a $3 billion dollar water buy back from irrigators was introduced by Prime Minister Howard and Malcom Turnbull was his water minister in 2007.
He came to Griffith together with the then deputy mayor of Griffith City Council and another Liberal, Peter Fussell, to promote it.

NO HIDING BEHIND KEYBOARD
There is clearly a transition occurring away from traditional print media toward social media throughout the world.
This change is good and bad. Good as more people are able to engage in debate and thrash out ideas on a range of topics.
More people are able to enact their right to free speech. But also bad, as there is less editorial controls and respect of the applicable laws in news reporting.
Within Australia, unlike some countries, we can enjoy free speech. However, certain restrictions exist.
We as citizens have the basic responsibility to respect the rights or reputations of others. We must work together to protect national security and public order, as well as protect information around health and morals.
It is clear to see in Griffith several anonymous social media pages are infringing basic rights which we have come to expect.
We have an anonymous page preaching hate about the mayor. We have another anonymous page presenting their own ‘free news,’ without editorial controls and regularly attacking the reputation of others.
For our basic rights to be applied today, as it has for the past 200 years, shouldn’t we know who is publishing material online.
Isn’t it time all social media accounts are forced to include basic contact information?

THINK BEFORE TO VOTE
This letter is really written for all the young people who will be voting for the first time on Saturday, to urge all who are planning to vote for Helen Dalton to think carefully before casting that vote.
I am worried because there is a connection with all Shooters Clubs and this goes all the way to the American Shooters Association.
How do I know this? Well, when I posted my aversion to the Shooters Party in a comment on Facebook, there was a little icon to press if I wanted a phone call from the Australian Shooters Association!.
I wondered why I would want to but, of course, this made me curious and I pressed it. Some fellow phoned me, identifying himself as from the Australian Shooters Association and asked why I was anti the Shooters Party and gave me his reasons for supporting them. I asked him how this association was linked with other Associations.
He agreed that Helen's Party had a "slight" involvement with the Aust. Association -and the Aust. Association also had a "slight" involvement with the Shooters Party in America! This horrified me and I had a few words to say and asked a few questions.
I am still left wondering what this "slight" connection would be. And I couldn't stop thinking of all the massacres over there.
And according to him, Australian Shooters Clubs are merely for sporting shooters and have nothing to do with those Shooters who are presently, and noisily, working to undo the Australian Gun Laws brought in after the massacre in Tasmania!
Since then I have seen advertisements urging voters to choose Helen, but she is shown on her own, and although she has allied herself with the Fishers, Farmers and Shooters Party there was no signage to indicate this.
Is this because she is worried that voters will shy away from the Shooters Party, especially since we have seen those videos on the news which state that "boys want guns". I have no idea why the Fishers and Farmers would want to become involved with Shooters - and it worries me as I well remember the arguing and fighting about the destruction of guns many years ago.
I suppose part of the next Government's first legislative action will be to further tighten the laws governing guns, before these people are able to weaken them.
