Three candidates out of the 10 who registered came in person to the ballot draw: current Member for Murray Austin Evans, Pauline Hanson's One Nation Thomas Weyrich and independent Brian Mills.

The much-awaited draw was held on 123 Banna Avenue, and conducted by returning officer Rick Goodwin at 10am on Thursday.

Some were surprised at the number of candidates, however said on the whole having this many would not be a bad thing.

"I I think it highlights how disastrous the situation here in Murray actually is," Mr Weyrich said.

"I was hoping there would be this many - I am certainly pleased," Mr Mills said.

As one by one the names were pulled out, Mr Evan waited patiently for his name to finally arrive, and it did second to last.

"I am happy to be on the ballot put it that way - it will let people be the judge," Mr Evans said.

And while popular belief held that George Youseff would run as Labor candidate despite no official announcement from the party, Alan Purtill from Balranald's name is in the running for the seat.

"It is disappointing to see only three candidates came here on the day… I think it shows true commitment from those who came today," Mr Weyrich said.
