Each year early in March, the committee works hard to organise and plan a fun-filled day of swimming, cycling and running supported by local business. All with the same goal in their sites, to have fun, get fit and to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere the triathlon creates. The 2019 event will be no different, with over 100 competitors expected to hit The Hillston Lions Park preparing to Swim, Bike and Run to challenge themselves to meet their own goals.
This year the Hillston Triathlon will be held on Sunday 3rd of March with four events taking place, with the first event scheduled to be in the water for an 8am start is the Micro Triathlon.
The Micro event is designed to encourage and inspire young children in the sport of triathlons. Its distances are set at a 100m swim, 2km Cycle and an 800m Run, and although individual participation is encouraged in this event, we also have a strong team category allowing weaker individuals the opportunity to be involved.
The second event for the day is the Mini Race. With distances designed to challenge moderately fit individuals and team competitors, the Mini Race is a 200m Swim, 10km Cycle and a 1.7km run. The Mini is a great challenge for kids, teenagers and adults wishing to test their strength in each of the three disciplines or to team up with a group of friends just for the fun of it. The Mini event is scheduled to start at 8.30am.
The main event of the day which entices locals and those from afar to participate is the Sprint Race. The Sprint consists of a 750m Swim, a 20km Cycle and a 5km run. The Sprint starts at 9.30am and is a great challenge for all who are willing and able and for those who wish to push themselves a little bit further.
This event offers all competitors, non-competitors, spectators and community members a chance to join together and take a stroll around Lake Woorabinda for a gold coin donation. The Hillston Triathlon committee is hoping to raise some funds on the day of the triathlon with any profits made from the event and will also be running a raffle in the lead up to the race and a 100 club to support Deyan.
Over the years the Hillston Outback Triathlon has attracted competitors from near and far, and we look forward to this year been no different. Come along and join in to be a part of this great family day out. Those looking to register can follow the instructions on the Hillston Outback Triathlon Facebook page.
