In November the federal government injected funding into to the Future Drought Fund, during which Carathool Shire Council was added to the list of drought declared councils.
As such Carrathool was allowed to apply for funding from the Drought Communities Program and and receive up to $1million in grants for various projects around town.
Projects that create local construction jobs or rely on local materials are especially eligible for the grants.
However, Carrathool General Manager Rick Warren said the fact that the projects have to be completed by June 30 in order for them to be funded by the government is making difficult for council to make use of the program and plan effectively.
"The projects are in they are all being assessed, the indication we are getting is that most of them will be approved, if some of them do drag on we will hopefully receive and extension" Mr Warren said.
"It has been difficult getting planning and quotes from tradesmen done quickly."
Mr Warren said this week council has agreed to endorse 18 projects for applications to funding under the Drought Communities Program.
Mr Warren said the projects are for a broad range of community interests with jobs to be created for up to 12 tradesmen in town.
