The winning act will get to play the opening set at A Day in the Orchard – the hot new music festival at Piccolo Family Farm on Sunday 5th May as well as taking home a cash prize.
Runners up will get to perform at MY FEST music festival on 25th October, alongside headline artists.
There will also be a prize for best original song.
GRASS ROOTS organizer Ben Ceccato says the competition welcomed all music genres and styles, and he encouraged young musicians from across the region to take opportunity to gain experience and exposure.
“We know there are lots of amazing young musicians, making great music in their classrooms and in their bedrooms," Mr Ceccato said.
"We really want to see them get up on stage and show us what they can do so that we can support them to take their music to the next level.”
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager Raina Savage said there was a lot of local talent bubbling away in Griffith, and that they just needed a platform to shine.
“We are really keen to promote local talent and provide opportunities for emerging young artists to perform and gain exposure," she said.
"Sunday Sessions are always a great way to chill out, especially in this heat, so providing a stage for our audience to enjoy fresh local talent was a no-brainer.”
A Day in the Orchard Festival director Luke Piccolo said the winner was sure to have a day to remember.
“GRASS ROOTS is all about unearthing young, local talent that we can then showcase in a fantastic festival atmosphere," Mr Piccolo said.
"We strongly believe in giving our young artists the opportunity to perform alongside world class acts.”
GRASS ROOTS will be in the Burley Griffin Room at Griffith Regional Theatre on Sunday 3rd March from 2pm.
Entry is free, people just need to RSVP on Eventbrite.
The bar is open and there will be a lucky door prize to win two tickets to A Day in the Orchard Festival.
