Griffith police will be pulling out all the stops this weekend to catch drink drivers before they endanger themselves and others.

That’s the stern message that Griffith police wants drivers to know before Operation Drink Drive One begins on February 15.
Drink Drive One comes after a spate of drink-driving arrests last weekend, with five drivers caught over a period of just two days.
This weekend’s crackdown will be even more strict, with more police cars on the highways and as many officers on the beat as possible to keep an eye out for drink-drivers.
It’s a crime that’s all-too common, according to Griffith Highway Patrol sergeant Jason Hinson.
“I don’t know why people still do it; they risk their life, their job, and their licence,” Sergeant Hinson said.
“There’s absolutely no need to endanger everyone else on the road just because you want to have a drink.”
Last weekend’s spate of arrests began early on Saturday at around 1.30am, when a 46-year-old man was caught driving with a low-range blood alcohol content of 0.072.
That night at 7.20pm on Saturday a 57-year-old man’s unusual driving caught the attention of police, who stopped the ute he was driving and found he had a high-range blood alcohol content of 0.159.
Then at 11.30pm on Saturday a 28-year-old man had his driving privileges suspended after he was caught driving with a mid-range blood alcohol content of 0.117.
Shortly afterwards at 12.10am on Sunday a man was caught with mid-range blood alcohol content of 0.081, and he had his P1 licence suspended.
Then at 12.55pm on Sunday police caught a 19-year-old man driving with high-range blood alcohol content of 0.125 while on a suspended learner’s licence at 12.55am on Sunday.
