Forner came into the game off the back of scoring 65 in his side’s win over Wagga Blue last weekend and continued where he left off when he made his way to the crease.
After winning the toss against Leeton and electing to bat Griffith made a decent start with Forner and Billy Evans getting their side to 25 before Evans (1) fell to the bowling Eligh Watson (1/42).
Ben Signor joined Forner, and the pair were able to add 19 runs before Chris Iannelli (1/29) removed Signor (12). Forner was the backbone for the Griffith innings and while Noah Gaske (5) fell to the bowling of Callum Dunn (1/26) eventually found a long-term partner in Jake Rand.
Over the course of the next 14 overs, Rand and Forner worked hard to get runs on the board and were able to put on an 89-run partnership before Forner (101 ret.) posted his century and was forced to retire. Rand (47*) and Ben Fattore (12*) were able to add 29 runs over the final 4.5 overs to see Griffith finish their 45 overs on 4/210.
It was always going to be a tough chase for the Leeton side, and the loss of Tyler O’Connell (2) to the bowling of Rand (1/27) made the task harder. While Tom Allen (4) and Noah Maybon (3) fell without troubling the scorers, Henry Lacey and Blake McDonald tried to get their side moving in the right direction.
The pair were able to 39 runs before Jack Mingay (2/16) dismissed Lacey (31) and Iannelli (0) while Sean Culgan (1/7) picked up the wicket of Logan Mahalm (1) to have Leeton sitting on 6/86 after 27.3 overs.
With Leeton needing 125 runs off the final 17.3 overs they needed one of their batsmen to go on and make a big score. While McDonald (51*) was able to put runs on the board, he was unable to find a partner with Taj Doyle (9) falling to Signor (2/17) before Noah Kirkman (2/4) picked up the wickets of Charlie Lamont (5) and Dunn (0).
The Leeton innings was brought to a close on 136 when Watson (1) was run out by Mingay to see Griffith come away with a 74-run win.
Griffith take on Snowy Mountains next weekend while Leeton has the bye.
