Dally M winger for the Canberra Raiders Jordan Rapana, Melbourne Storm player Dale Finucane and Sydney Rooster prop Ruan Sims were flat out on Monday morning visiting Narrandera Public School, Darlington Point Public School and Colemabally Central School.
Rapana said one of the focuses of the trip has been to teach children to be sensible on-line when using phones, computers, social media and games.
Finucane said school children in the country usually are NRL fans and are always happy to have players visit, although he and Sims did receive some friendly cheek on account of their club affiliations.
“I’m from Bega on the South Coast and I remember what it was like when NRL players would come down to our school and run clinics, I’m pretty sure it was Ryan Cross from the Roosters and they brought the premiership trophy with them, every one was really excited, just being able to be that person now hopefully these kids get that same good feeling,” Finucane said.
“We were talking about our day-to-day lives and what it takes to be a rugby league player, positive attitudes and mentality is important, to get to our positions in NRL we have had to make a lot of sacrifices with diet and exercise from a young age, hopefully some of those ideas about attitudes with mentally and goals will rub off on them with what ever it is that they do.”
