In March 2018, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a young girl had been indecently assaulted by a man at a child care centre between 2008 and 2009.
As a result of inquiries, detectives travelled to Victoria to speak with a 31-year-old man in September 2018.
Following further investigation, the 31-year-old man was arrested at a home in the Riverina about 3.30pm last Friday.
He was charged with aggravated indecent assault-victim under the age of 16 years.
Police will allege the man indecently assaulted the then two-year-old girl while she was attending day care at the home of his relative.
The man was refused bail and appeared in court where he was granted strict conditional bail to re-appear in court on Friday.
Police have notified the Early Childhood Education and Care Directorate, NSW Department of Education and Communities, who have served a prohibition notice on the director of the child care centre.
Inquiries are continuing.
Anyone with concerns about suspected child abuse or exploitation should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
