It has been eight successful defences from the Griffith side after seeing off two challenges from Leeton before Christmas and has held onto the cup for over a year.

The run of defence was started with a win against Hay when they picked up a 48-run meeting which was also the last meeting between the two sides.

So far this season it has been a successful one in the representative side after they took out the Murrumbidgee Twenty20 shield and the two successful defences of the Creet Cup with the only defeat coming in an O’Farrell Cup Challenge against Holbrook.

Captain Theo Valeri is happy with the makeup of the sides that have been taking the field so far this season.

“I think we have been performing pretty well,” he said.

“Most of the guys have played a number of representative games, and we have been giving the young boys a bit of a run.

“We will be giving Tom Greenaway his first senior rep game this weekend.”

Valeri thanked those players who were willing to give up their Sundays to play for the side on a regular basis.

“It has been a good season thus far, and that comes down to the players,” he said.

“The commitment level from those who have put their hand up has been really good and makes my job as captain that much easier.”

Coming into this weekend, Valeri admitted that he wasn’t too sure what to expect from the Hay side.

“They are a bit of an unknown,” he said.“Dean Aylett, their captain, will be one to watch out for. He bowls some handy off spinners.”

The weekend forecast while warm will not reach the heights of the last week with a top of 37 degrees on Sunday.
