Jess and Dannielle both had success on the ski’s while father Mark picked up two first places as an observer.
“This was Dannielle's Victorian Point Score since she was in year five which was five years ago,” Mark said.
“She was a bit keen and wanted to get down and have a crack and ended up surprising the lot of us. She got a second in 60mph social, second in the 60mph two-up and third in the 60mph expert.
“Jess is now in opens, and he got a second in unlimited two-up and a second in open marathon and has been pulling alright up with the big boys and holding his own.”
The step up into the open division has done little to slow Jess’s success as he blew his goal out of the water early in the season.
We looked at getting a top 10 finish eventually by the end of the year, and we got that in our first race in Sydney at the Hawkesbury 120 and then we ended up with a third at the Ted Hurley at Wentworth,” he said.
“Touch wood things keep heading in the same direction. Dannielle got a fifth in the Barrie Beehag two-up race which was the first river race for the season which was really good.”
The successes from the start of this season have rolled on from a good end to last year which saw Jess take out the South Australian Title in June. There was little downtime as they looked to keep the good form going and started training for this season at the start of July.
“There is no exercise that you can really do to get ski fit. It is all just a matter of time on the water,” he said.
“We just run around the lake on my social boat at 30mph. We do half an hour at a time and then come in have the fire bucket and warm up and then go back out for another half an hour.”
There will now be a short break for the family before they prepare to tackle the next big event.
“The next race for us will be the Southern 80 and hopeful we will give it a good crack,” he said. “It's the 9-10th of February, so we will get down there and do a bit of training in mid-January and start running the course.”
