Hundreds are expected to turn up to the free Highways and Byways event, which aims to spread a bit of Christmas cheer to those who are homeless, alone, or just doing it tough.
Everybody is invited to come for an afternoon of fun, food, and fellowship on December 15 near the Collier Trennery Funeral Home on 202 Yambil Street at 3pm.
The nearby road will be closed off to make way for pony rides, jumping castle, face painting, food, live music, dancing, carols, a dance performance from the islander community and more.
Collier Trennery owner Greg Collier said Christmas was not such a merry time of year for some in the community, and that he wanted to help spread the festive spirit.
“We are excited about hosting an event for people that may not have an opportunity to sit at a Christmas table with family,” Mr Collier said.
“At this Christmas party we will be one big Griffith family.”
It’s a message that aligns with his business’s motto “families helping families”, and it’s one that he hopes will continue long after the Christmas season is over.
The name of the Highways and Byways event comes from Luke:14 in the Bible, which refers to the idea of giving and expecting nothing in return.
As always the spirit of giving is strong in the Griffith community and local businesses, who have dedicated their time and money to help run the event.
“We are overwhelmed with the support of our community,” Mr Collier said.
“The amazing thing with Griffith is that so many businesses and people are donating and discounting their products and services for this occasion.”
Many volunteers have jumped on board to help out the Collier Trenerry team, who have worked overtime to make the event a success.
The event will kick off on December 15 near 202 Yambil Street at 3pm.
