The new defibrillators come courtesy of the state government and will be kept at the West End Oval canteen and Griffith Golf Club’s Pro Shop.

President of Griffith Hockey Association Michael Crosato said the new equipment would provide peace of mind for association members but wouldn’t likely be a selling point encouraging new players to join.

“It’s really good, anything we can do to influence the safety of our members is a good thing,” Mr Crosato said.

“Our player’s age group starts at five years and goes up to age 61.

“The main objective is to make sure that if incidents do occur we have something there assist,” Mr Crosato said.

Also sharing access to the defibrillators at West End will be the children and adult spectators attending Griffith Little Athletics events.

Little Athletics President Veronica Cadmore said it’s not only older residents who will benefit from the defibrillator at sporting events.

“It’s every one spectators, grandparents, even little kids,” Mrs Cadmore said.  

“It’s great to know that peace of mind is there if something does happen.”

Secretary manager at Griffith Golf Association Wayne Moat agreed saying given the diversity of heart ailments in the world the risk of injuries and attacks is not always aged based.

“It’s not so much ages, there is a lot of walking involved which could lead to a heart incident,” Mr Moat said.

“We’ve never had (a heart attack) before so hopefully it will help the situation, not that we ever want to use it.

“We’re about three to four kilometers (from hospital) so it's definitely something you want to have before the ambulance get there.

“With the holidays we get a lot of extra families and visitors to town,” Mr Moat said.
